Everyone loves fast food. Some of my earliest memories are of fast food restaurants we visited as a family. We hit up different places such as Dairy Queen, Burger King, Wendy’s, Pizza Hut, Subway and even KFC from time to time. Of all the fast food places we visited there was one that easily took our number one spot, obviously it’s McDonald’s.
I have more memories of sitting at a McDonald’s booth than I do all other fast food joints combined. It became more than a staple for us, it was a way of life. In the early days it was the Happy Meal. Back then it was the simple cheeseburger or chicken nuggets battling for supremacy. By the time I was a teenager it was the famous Big Mac that took won me over. By the time I was a grown adult I switch firmly to the Filet O Fish and the Quarter Pounder with Cheese and Bacon. It didn’t take long before going to McDonald’s went from being a treat to just being what we did. It became routine.
Everyone in our family had their own favorite fast food places growing up. My mother’s was Burger King. For my dad it was Wendy’s. My baby sister preferred McDonald’s and my younger sister liked Dairy Queen. My oldest sister didn’t express a preference from what I remember. Mine was Taco Bell. I fell in love with the beef infilled Super Burrito and Taco Supreme they are known for.
One of the best parts of going to fast food is the speedy. You walk in, place an order and mere moments later you’ve got food ready to eat. If you are in even a bigger hurry you can go through the drive through and have our food in hand in a hurry without leaving your vehicle. It’s an experience we are all too familiar with.
One of the things I love about fast food besides the speed is the variety. Today you can get just about any type of food you can think of at some sort of fast food establishment.
We know the majority of fast food is unhealthy for us. Despite that millions of people spend their hard earned dollars each day on a quick meal.
Here are ten Fast Food places I think everyone should check out as often as they can along with the best menu items you should be getting.
It goes without saying the number one in fast food should be a regular stop. You can treat yourself to a variety of classic hamburgers but some of the best items on their menu aren’t beef. My favorites are the Filet-O-Fish sandwich, the ever popular chicken nugget and the 2 breakfast burritos. I could eat those three items all day if my body could handle it. They are also known for their shakes. Also you can get a damn tasty refreshing Coke to wash it all down.
2. Taco Bell
My person favorite. Here the thing you are after is the Nachos Supreme, cheesy fiesta potatoes, Supreme Tacos and Burrito Supreme. Basically anything with the word supreme in it. But don’t forget to add those scrumptious cheesy potatoes!
Fried chicken is a delicious treat. I don’t often stray far from the bucket myself. Grab some of your favorite sides and some drinks then it’s party time. I like the coleslaw and potatoes myself.
What you are looking for here is chili. You get yourself a chili cheese coney, a chili cheese fries, some chili tater tots and a cup of chili on the side. You can’t go wrong just be sure to grab the tums. Also while you are at it pick up some Jalapeno poppers. Ooh yummy!
5. Jack in the Box
Start with the standard meal, any meal. Throw a pair of tacos on the side, get some onion rings and jalapeno poppers and you got yourself a good time.
6. Dairy Queen
Ah DQ, the icy bitch of the fast food family. What you want here is a bacon cheeseburger and a side of ice cream goodness. The best is the Peanut Buster Parfait, or those super sensational Blizzards! I recommend the Butterfinger variety. Chow.
I don’t go here often. When I do I get the standard order as follows: Italian herbs and spices, meat trio topped with every vegetable and some spicy Italian dressing and oh dang this is good. I finish the meal with a side of Sun Chips and a Mountain Dew from the machine.
8. Pizza Hut
The only fast food pizza place I frequent. Not as fast as some of its competitor it’s still a quick and savory bite on the go. Also as they deliver it reduces the need to leave the house. Start with a 12 inch medium Meat Lovers Pan pizza. Order of hot and spicy buffalo wings with the bone and you top it off with a side of cheesy breadsticks and an A&W Root Beer assuming they have it in stock.
Much like Pizza Hut in some respects but a slightly different experience. Skip the pizza go for the snacks. Get the bacon chicken ranch sandwich, a side of hot and spicy boneless wings, some cheesy bread and a side salad to satisfy your guilty conscious and you are good to go.
So good it made the list twice. This time around enjoy a good old fashioned pair of Cheeseburgers and a 10 piece chicken nugget now show you love living and get it all in a Happy Meal and you are set to enjoy the day.
